Ph.D
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D) Degree is the highest degree awarded by the university. The programme aims to develop analytical and research skills of the scholars. The objective is to promote original research in the fields of Commerce, Management, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, English, Journalism & Mass Communication. A research scholar has to successfully complete the Ph.D Course-work, undergo the rigorous research work in his/her specialised area, get research publications done as per norms, submit the thesis, and appear for Viva-Voce to earn the degree.
ARKA JAIN University, Jharkhand offers Ph.D Programme and regulates through its Academic Council, in compliance with UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for award of M.Phil. / Ph.D Degrees) Regulations, 2022.
COURSE DURATION
Ph.D. Programme shall be for a minimum duration of three years, including course work and a maximum of 6 years Extension beyond the above limits will be governed by the relevant clauses as stipulated in the Statute/Ordinance of the university.
The women candidates and Persons with Disability (more than 40% disability) may be allowed a relaxation of two years for Ph.D in the maximum duration. In addition, the women candidates may be provided Maternity Leave/Child Care Leave once in the entire duration of Ph.D for up to 240 days

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA TO PURSUE A PH.D PROGRAMME
A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4- semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed
or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.

ADMISSION PROCESS

1. | Ph.D. Entrance Test (Pen & Paper Based) | An Entrance Test shall be conducted with qualifying marks as 50%. The syllabus of the Entrance Test shall consist of 50% of research methodology and 50% shall be subject specific. The Entrance Test will be conducted at the University Campus. |

Exemption from Ph.D Entrance Test
The candidates who have qualified UGC-NET (including JRF)/ UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/ SLET/ GATE/ M. Phil. are exempted from the written test.
For the purpose of consideration of the said exemption they must timely submit scanned copy of the issued certificate along with the application form.
However, it is mandatory for all the candidates to appear before the selection committee for the interview.
Selected candidates can pursue research Part-time. Candidates employed in an Educational or Research Organization may be permitted to register as Part-Time Scholars.
Moreover, they will have to work and be present at the University Campus, Gamharia when needed for the purpose of their research.
