HOD, BA Fashion Design

A fashion designer, from Nation Institute of fashion Technology (NIFT), Nikunj has an experience of working with leading export houses for almost ten years. As the Company head for India region, she has played a pivotal role in setting up an export house “Best Karma Designs Pvt. Ltd’, in Mumbai, leading a team of designers, merchandiser, tailors, pattern maker, fabric cutter, embroiderers, material sourcing boys and accountant.

She started her career with,  Chanakya International Pvt. Ltd, an export house,  designing and developing embroideries for high end Italian labels like Gucci , Armani, Valentino followed by  her experience in main stream high fashion garmenting  at Doruka Designs Ltd, for – “Anya Hind march”- UK based beachwear label & and “Susann Eschenfelder”- hi end German furnishing labels, eventually, taking charge of many more buyer accounts like Heidi Klein, Karma beach, Toujouri, Tania, Apsara, Marie Chantal .

With Crisp understanding of quality and eye for design and technical details she has lead teams at various reputed export houses catering to clients from Italy, Germany, UK, USA, Europe, Middle East, Australia over the years.She has been to international exhibitions like Premiere Vision at Paris and been a part of the team presenting the season`s collection of her company to buyers from across the globe.

As a freelance design Consultant for a label in Mumbai, she has worked towards establishing an efficient and goal driven Enterprise and has contributed towards developing customer base, and processing sales in exhibitions, and searching for new potential business.

Proficient in designing silhouettes, styles, and embroideries for ethnic wear, and, for high fashion global market, with in-depth technical understanding of garments she has Extensive knowledge of woven silk fabrics -procurement, dyeing, printing sewing and embroideries.

 

As an entrepreneurial attempt , she Initiated a start up in Jamshedpur-“ Creative Roots”, to bring to the youth of Jamshedpur/ Women who want to be entrepreneurs or anybody who wishes to create – a cohesive knowledge of design concepts, industry standard design skills, a clear understanding of visual aesthetics supported by strong technical knowhow to design and create marketable products . With a clear vision to take this design and product development knowledge to the grass root level, she has become part of Ammucare Charitable Trust under which she is training women and girls of village Mohanpur with stitching and product development skills.

She has been a part of the design team of Life Craft, a non-profit organization base in Jamshedpur and has been providing design inputs for their product development.

Her ideology is to marry the design training received during college with the `on floor’ industry experience to provide a practical cohesive training to students whether at college or to unskilled women at the village. The whole idea of becoming responsible designers and creating sustainable fashion according to her should be the mantra for every aspiring designer of today.
